This email was sent today relative to Mayor Jim Lane’s op-ed in the Scottsdale Republic, reprinted on ScottsdaleTrails earlier:
Let’s get rid of the bad acts!
This so-called bar ordinance doesn’t even begin to apply to the behavior in the street!
The ordinance, even with its 12 revisions, is disingenuous, a false start. Addressing the toxic environment outside these establishments needs to be in concert with what goes on inside these clubs. And mandating language needs to be added to include criteria to revoke the CUP.
Noise, parking and intrusions to Villa Monterrey are a far cry from being resolved. Token gestures and mere lip service are an insult to the citizens of Scottsdale who care about our quality of life.
Furthermore, there are already several references within Scottsdale’s GENERAL PLAN that our mayor and council majority have simply ignored.
For Instance, Land Use:
Page 60; g. “Land uses should provide opportunities for the design of uses to fit and respect the character, scale and quality of uses that exist in the community.”
Page 71; 3rd paragraph- “Whenever non-residential uses are adjacent to established or planned residential areas, special care must be taken to ensure privacy and to protect personal property, Methods of protecting residential areas by providing transitions and buffers between areas include increased setbacks, landscaping, restricted land uses, diversion of traffic, controlled noise or light, height limitation…”
Those references are but a few of many.

Let’s get rid of the bad acts!
This so-called bar ordinance doesn’t even begin to apply to the behavior scenes in the street! Applications of the ordinance, even with its 12 revisions, is disingenuous, a false start. Addressing the toxic environment outside these establishments needs to be in concert with what goes on inside these clubs. And mandating language needs to be added to include criteria to revoke the CUP. Noise, parking and intrusions to Villa Monterrey are a far cry from being resolved. Token jesters and mere lip service is an insult to the citizens of Scottsdale who care about our quality of life.
Furthermore, while I’m on the subject, there are several references within THE GENERAL PLAN that our luxurious majority leadership has simply ignored.
For Instance:
Land Use:
Page 60;g.- “Land uses should provide opportunities for the design of uses to fit and respect the character, scale and quality of uses that exist in the community.”
The above quotations are but a few.
