  1. Women using men’s names was popular in the 19th century. I’ve heard it was because of the fear that they wouldn’t be taken seriously if their works were signed with a woman’s name.

    George Sand was the lover of the pianist Chopin and is another example. I wonder how Eliot and Sand would have adjusted to today’s liberal society.
