Local Quote: Outrageous Practice

Clint Bolick, Vice President for Litigation at the Goldwater Institute said of the judge’s ruling, “The decision is the first step in getting rid of an outrageous practice that places public resources at the disposal of special interests…”

Quoted in the EJ Montini’s Arizona Republic article on the Phoenix Police union’s paid work release issue.

I’m holding my breath for Goldwater Institute to carry this banner into battle against Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane and incumbent council candidates Linda MIlhaven and Dennis Robbins, for $20+ million in taxpayer-funded subsidies to the Tournament Players Club (aka PGA), Phil Mickelson, the private Scottsdale Cultural Council (which also gets free rent), and Jason Rose’s polo matches. Meanwhile, Scottsdale has tallied up $1.3 BILLION in debt, highest per-capita of any of the major cities in the Valley.

But since Lane’s chief of staff JP Twist is the son of Goldwater founder Steve Twist, I’m not holding my breath.

Goldwater is big talk when it involves political opponents, not so much when it comes to their cronies.
