A friend just told me about the Miracle League of Arizona, an organization that built and maintains a baseball field in Scottsdale dedicated to special needs folks who want to play the game and might not otherwise have an opportunity. All physically and developmentally challenged players from age 4 and up are welcome.
The first-class field and facilities are located just west of Cholla Park on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd, and on the north side of Via Linda (1/4-mile north of Shea). The organization is also about to complete a co-located special needs playground!
MLAZ is funded entirely from donations. There is no charge to participants. The organization would like to add more games to the schedule, and just needs more participants to sign up! They always need coaches, on-field “buddies” for the participants, announcers, and folks to work the concessions.
MLAZ is in the midst of their winter session. Spring session begins March 14th, but you can register online at the MLAZ website anytime.
