When folks think of car culture in Scottsdale, many think of our “Car Week” at the end of January. There are several collector car auctions at that time, and a host of other associated events.
But, the car scene here doesn’t begin and end with Car Week.
True to form, Mecum Auctions put on a good show again last month at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
A couple of the cars that caught my eye as I entered included a beautiful 1974 2+2 Datsun 260Z, and a Bob Bondurant tribute 1973 240Z, commissioned by Bob himself, and built by my friend, Les Cannaday.
The Bondurant School of High Performance Driving (now Radford Racing School) originally used 240Z cars to train its students. The car was a no-sale at $22,000, which seems low for a well-restored 240Z, even if restored as a tribute. Here’s a link to Mecum’s stunning photos of this beauty. Kudos to the Mecum photographer!
The 260Z was a well-done restomod. A tasteful flare kit filled with similarly tasteful, wider wheels and tires really pep up the car. I like the 2+2, and own one myself, though it’s in “survivor” condition.
