One of my favorite road bike rides used to start by heading west on Lafayette, through Arcadia a ways, then north up 56th Street across Camelback Road and up the south side of Camelback Mountain. But that was a while (and a few pounds) ago.

I was feeling good today and wanted to do something a little different. I rediscovered that as you get to the “top” you turn to the west, you then bear right and go up a little MORE. Your reward for your burning thighs is a splendid view of Downtown Phoenix, Sky Harbor Airport, and South Mountain.

And then, of course, you get to go DOWN the other end…after which I’d had enough and I returned to the flatlands of Downtown Scottsdale!
