Yarnell and the 100 Club

A Facebook friend is raising money for the families of the Granite Mountain Hotshot crewmembers that were killed fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire. Please take a moment to support his memorial fundraising ride/run:

In an effort to support the 100 Club and its amazing mission to assist the families of 19 fallen Firefighters who lost their lives in Yarnell, AZ, I will be doing a 108 mile ride/run from Phoenix to Prescott on July 14th. I ask that you donate whatever you can to the 100 Club’s Scholarship Fund. The tragedy that unfolded last Sunday will have an everlasting effect on the community and the families directly impacted by the loss of their loved ones. In the final moments of anyone’s life, the thought of family is at the forefront and 100 Club ensures that families receive the much needed support in the immediate hours of tragedy and for years after. Please go to www.100club.org and donate what you can to support these heroes and their families. The fund is geared towards covering the costs of tuition for immediate family members of the fallen.

My target is to raise $ 25,000 for the families through the 100 Club. Please ask people to mention my name when donating for tracking purposes [if using PayPal, put “Tim J Kane fundraising ride” in the “Special instructions to seller” box]. Thank you and have a great day.

    1. Hi, Fran, it’s always good to be a little cautious about donating to charities in the wake of a disaster. I don’t know the specifics of 100 Club support for the families, but they are referenced in this recent AZCentral article: http://www.azcentral.com/news/arizona/articles/20130718benefits-fallen-hotshots-families-detailed.html.

The 100 Club has a good reputation, and I’ve participated in a Shop with a Cop Christmas event for children of fallen officers that was organized by the Police Officers of Scottsdale (POSA). The kids that participated were identified by the 100 Club.

You can check out any charity via Charity Navigator, which gives the 100 Club one of the highest ratings possible:

      Thanks again for your question!
